Tipping courtesy

so I just back from a nice restaurant, and  it reminded me about the importance of leaving a tip. afterall the average waitress or waiter only make about 3.00 hr they rely heavily on tips to make a living, and on top of that more and more people are not tipping. I am not for sure why,  poor service,  not enough extra money, or the fact that they might just be a no good cheapskate. Regardless of whether expectations were met or not, you should still leave something there. its common courtesy. even if service is not as great as you would want it, there is so much more that may be going on that you do not know about: for example, it could be a very busy night, the waiter/waitress might be having a bad day,( i.e. family death,  or even the death of someone close to them. They might also just be having a bad day, that happens to everyone. I am sure you would not like it if you were on your off day and even though you were working as hard as you could you kept messing up. And then your boss comes in and says hey, you are not getting paid for today because of your poor efforts. No, you would not like that. I am even for sure a masochist wouldn't like that.
So what then how much should you tip then?  At least 15% at most 25%?.. honestly I am not  for sure I do not tip by percentages, I think that creates too many problems
BIGGEST REASON: They do not make my food, so it would be silly for me to make a judgement of their performance based off of the price of my meal. And I am not tipping the cook, I am tipping the  waitress. so Percentages go out the window.
here is  how I tip. I start the tip at two dollars. NOW before you get up in arms about that and tell me "thats not a lot of money,  I thought this was about being nice to the waitress' not mean"
Calm yourselves, I put it at two dollars because its  a nice medium tipping zone for the restaurants that I go to, and since none of the restaurants I go to have huge  expensive plates, like cheesecake factory,( and believe me the last time I went there my wallet cried) if you don't believe me you can take me there and I will show you.
and while we are there you can buy me a plate
it is a nice starting place. But lets stop there and think hypothetically how much  should you start with  depending on  where you are eating?
 average $ per plate/ $starting tip
10/$2
15/$3
20/$4
25/$5
......
1,000/ just give them your credit card
10,000/ buy them a new car
no, seriously if you can throw down that much for a plate, it shouldn't hurt you too much more to buy them a chevy spark or something similar
I hope thats understandable enough

Okay so now that we have that out of the way  I can move on.
I will add one dollar to the tip for:

  •  every time they refill my drink: typically thats a root beer with a lemon, and if they remember the lemon each time thats an extra .50. I will typically go through 3-4 glasses so thats $3 right there maybe even more.
  •  promptly  getting our  orders  and bringing our drinks to us: time is money  and if you want more money you best you your time right, now before anyone gets up in ares about this too, I just want to say this, as a customer, I am the important one, If we are not ready we will let you know, but when we say five more mins. you'd better be back in five mins.
  •  every time they  remember to check up on us: this is different  they are only .25 each, I want them to check up often)
  •   being friendly with the family: Honestly this should be the easy one, be nice to the family and make me want to visit again
I hope this is making it understandable,  I am purely basing  my tip off of the service I receive from the waitress/ waiter. If I look around and its a bit packed and my waitress is  zooming left to right,  thats understandable and I will not deduct that from them, but it should not hurt to take the time, even if it is  two seconds to see how I am doing every now and then.
I will deduct from  the tip if:
  • Rude to the family:  there could be up to a $5  deduction  for this. No one likes a meanie face, its just that simple
  •  my drink is left empty: there is some kind of minute time frame with this but I cannot quite remember exactly, which is good because it means I receive good service.
and believe me, there is nothing sadder than an empty glass of root beer
  •  not checking up on the table: there is a .98 cent  deduction  here,   mainly because in the worst possible situation, they will at least get 2 cents. but this is in the case where they honestly neglect to keep up with the table, neglect to refill drinks, rude to my family etc
I just cannot  judge them on the food,  they did not make the food so it should not be their fault how it comes out, it taste terrible, it could taste great,  but it will not be on them, they just bring it out, and the really nice part about my tipping system, it is possible to leave with a 50%  even 100% tip OR even higher.  please comment below and let me know what you think about my tipping system, or if you have a different way of tipping.
And thats all I have to say about that.
