so get comfortable its going to be a long one
I would also like to give a quick Shout out to My Father, the man who to this day I still look up, and to the few other father figures in my life, you know who you are!! So...I am not a father
I know, sad right?
On the bright side, I am at least an uncle, many times over. I would give a better number but I do not want to be wrong and either leave somebody wondering, or upset because I left their kid out, and thats just too much of a mess
and lets just say I am not in a cleaning up mood
So this morning and afternoon I was thinking about what it means to be a father, in hopes that I could figure something out before the kids start coming. and when I was thinking about "what it means to be a father" I also began to think about what it means to be a man, and how those two go hand in hand. The first word that comes to mind when I think of these is Honor.Honor-There was at one time when Honor was important for a person, whether it was family honor or just personal honor. What I mean by "family" honor is for a person to actually give two cents, about what he (or she) does, and the impact it would do for their family, and people really just do not think about that, in fact they try and glorify it
stuff like this really makes me hope they legalize human euthanasia
I do not really know when it stopped, but you watch the news these days, or read the newspaper, or even preview some of the "finest" selection of reality shows that litter all the channels, they are about as bad as Soap Operas. So what do I mean by Honor? Well for starters, I mean:
- actually caring about how others will react to my choices
- Being respectful to your parents, that means no talking back to them.
showing pride for your Heritage:Now I need to be careful with this one because of how bad things have gotten, SO I guess its best to not include it right now- and being respectful to other people
- and anything else that might leave people saying : "that Millar boy is one great kid, he must have good parents", and not "WTF, who the heck is that disrespectful kid?" Unless that is your goal then good luck with that
- respectful to Women!!!!! Remember this PLEASE for the sake of everything living remember this
Helpful- So a quick browse through all the family sitcoms will reveal quite a shock that 90% of them have a lazy father, and an overworked mother, and about 2.5 disrespectful children, if you do not believe me, then take a quick check I will wait......

in the meantime enjoy this fine example of what I am talking about |
Sad, am I right? so there is this sad imagery, of an unhelpful father figure, and people see this and think that its okay to copy this, because its funny on the tube so it must be funny in real life. WRONG. there is nothing funny about being a lazy drunk and wondering why your children have no respect, I might have just been raised differently. But there should be a higher standard of helpfulness. Being a man should mean you are not afraid to get your hands dirty AND actually help out around the house which includes
- vacuuming
- washing dishes
- cleaning bedroom
- mowing Lawn
- cleaning rooms
- changing diapers ( note: I say this now...)
- small home repairs
- helping kids with homework
respect- I have already touched up on this a little bit, this is due to the fact that I believe Honor and respect go hand in hand, when I am talking about respect I am talking about the "yes Sir ( or ma'am) and No Sir ( or Ma'am) not talking back to your elders, or telling them to shut the F*** up. ( <-- a sad true story) being a man IS NOT about how many beers you can drink, you probably should not be drinking anyways, its only successors or regret, headaches, comas, death, loss of Job. But that s just my opinion, if you do chose to drink, please be responsible about it
To finish up being a man, means being there for your family and supporting them, Holding a steady well paid job, and also taking the time to give meaningful service. Now if you are not married and want to know how the most of these are suppose to mean something to you then , just start off where you can and when you get married start working on the rest, Honor and respect play possibly the biggest part of being a man. Thats all I have to say about that
