okay everybody prepare to be blown away
So A really close
friend of mine is a huge fan of star wars, and so am I, or at least I would
like to think that I am a huge fan. So if you, like my friend and I, are also a
fan then you know that there is a huge debate about the Prequel movies and how the
original three are WAY better than the prequel movies. I read a couple of other
people’s opinions, and frankly I think some of them need to step away from the
past, yes the original movies a freaking fantastic I watched them all the time
as a kid, when they were available for me to watch, sadly I do not own a single
copy myself so my only opportunities are when I have a friend that owns copies
and is in the mood to watch them, which does not occur as much as I would like
it. So this post might turn into a “general post about Prequel, sequels, and
remakes, AND why I think people need to build bridges—and if they are, they
should try and make a visit to the neighboring town, because they are taking
WAY too much time building a simple bridge, but that’s a rant for another
day—but my major argument here is about Star wars and will be the main argument
for about every nit-pick I have.
Anyways the general consensus is movies 4-6
awesome and movies 1-3 are the worst things to come out of George Lucas’ …you
know what…well, I agree and disagree, I agree that 4-6 are fantastic, when you look into the process that they
went through to make these movie, mind blown.
The Story line is great. It is easy to follow and really easy to get
sucked into, one minute you just put IV
in and the next moment the credits
for VI are rolling and the sun is
raising outside…oops, well who needs sleep when you got an epic science fiction
to watch. But guess what else is
awesome? You guessed it I-III movies
I-III were masterfully done, yes I just said that, and I also think that their
contribution to the series is just as
important. To better explain why I feel this I will be going over the following
topics
The Emotion order: why I feel like this is the order to watch
Sequel/prequel/remake
dilemma
Other orders and why
they lack
1.
So as far
as I am aware, I have absolutely no support, so I am not worried about wondering
if people will agree with it or not, nor
am I expecting people to do so, this is just my idea for the watching order. If you want to watch it
this way, cool, do so and let me know in the comments of how you liked it…or
not that’s cool too. So here is the order. IV, V, I, II, III, VI. So this is the reasoning behind this is that
it established the “beginning” we are introduced to Luke Skywalker and the
mysterious blue milk. We also get
introduced to Han solo, princess Leia,
and some old guy, umm what his name, ahh that’s right Ben Kenobi. And then there’s Threepio, who I
guess got that nickname because they were to say C-3PO, which takes half a
second long to say, there is also the Lovable R2-D2. So the Idea is that you watch the first two movies IV and V you get to the part where Darth vader is all
“ I AM YOUR FATHER” and you are all MIND BLOWN, After you watch those two
movies it’s time to take a step back to a time not long, long ago, in the very same galaxy far,
far away. YOU meet here important
characters such as Ben Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Padame, Jar-Jar Binks( yes I
said that and I stick by it)R2 D2, C-3PO, and pretty much the Jedi Council. SO I will now write about each Movie and why
it belongs where it does.
a.
Episode IV: There is a common concurrence that episode IV
goes first, and I can slide with that, because this is the Movie that started
it all and it still makes sense to use it as a starting point and people will
not be left with questions after they watch it as mentioned you meet pretty
much all the main characters in VI, so it’s a great place to start.
b.
Episode V:
pretty much starts where IV leaves off (sorta) it seems to me to be more of a
building on the characters but it also leaves at a really great time, which is
not too long after Luke finds out that Darth Vader is his father, even though
he chooses not to come to terms with it. But it’s a great stopping point to
take a step back and learn about who his
father was and how he became who he is now
Because cutting off someone's hand is the most convincing way to win them over
This is totally not what he signed up for
c.
Episode I:
so please hold the hate comments; I know many people think that this movie
holds no value to the series, but I think it does, and this is why, emotional
attachment. This is mostly why I choose to title this order: emotional Order.
You get to see Anakin as a kid, innocent care free and living the life—well as
much as he can as a slave. This movie
does many things, first of which sets in stone the fact that Anakin is an Ace
pilot that can pretty much fly anything (i.e. a pod racer he is the only human
that can fly one, and the N-1 Starfighter, which he pretty much learned to fly
without any formal training.) you learn about his origins, that he built C-3PO
and the fact that he was a slave. You get to know a little about the early life
of Ben Kenobi who his trainer was. What I think a lot of people fail to come to
is that episode I is merely setting things up for II and III, and IV—VI, this is the Beginning,
the Alpha. So of course there is will but some things that will not make sense.
Darth Maul played a very crucial role,
and that is because they discovered him
they knew that there was another ( “two
there is, a master and an apprentice, no
more, no less”) Now about Jar-Jar, aside from being a comic relief ( which is
important in any serious movie) he plays a very crucial role, and that is the
fact that he got the senate to hand complete power over to the Palpatine , who
with all this power ultimately killed off
pretty much all the Jedi and took over the Galaxy. And While some people want to argue about the
Trade Federation, think of them as the SA, the precursor to the SS, and if you
do not know who either are, open up a history book on WWII. So This movie still
plays important role in the Series. That important part, establishing a beginning,
and for anyone that hates I for its plotline, has to hate IV because they are
pretty much the same movie, if you do not believe me, just compare them , two
escape from a ship, meet up with locals leave the planet, there are some
differences in the middle BUT it still gets back on track they launch an attack on a “mother Ship”
and destroy it and ends on an Award ceremony. So yeah pretty much the
same plotline. While you may argue about lame and/or unimportant characters,
just remember that not every character need to be important.
do you see it?
d.
Episode II&III:
I already know what you are complain
about…Subpar Actors, Green screens
galore, etc. the list goes on farther than I care to think about, one of the
bigger complaints is that people complain that
Anakin turns into this
whinny fuss-hole. But from my
perspective it makes sense that he’s like that because I can think of another
guy just like him.
you would think all that training would have amounted to something...nope
that right you
guessed it, Like father like son, One
could easily argue that Luke was just whiney little fuss-hole too, I mean look
at it, He complained about doing his chores, not being able to join the rebellion, about
the Han’s Ship, about Darth Vader
being his father, about losing his hand, pretty much his hole time with Yoda...I
am sure you could find more, but these are the ones that I thought of on the
top of my head, I think that honestly what people did not like was the fact that they knew what was going to
happen, because of IV-VI, so there is no surprise. It’s just a matter of filling in the Gaps, and ending
on Anakin becoming Darth Vader, Padame Dying, and Luke and Leia being Separated,
and Ben Kenobi and Yoda becoming crazy and kooky hermits.
e.
Episode VI:
Now that everybody is caught up its just a matter about finishing it up no need
to explain this one, aside from the fact that it’s the end, at least until 2015
2.
Another
issue I see is that People were so attached to the Originals that the new ones
would not be able to compare to them; this is the same with any remake, or
sequel/ prequel. This is the fact that
the fans are so attached to the first movie that they expect the same from
anything that follows after it, and when it comes to remake, there’s just no
hope. In all honesty, I believe that people would still hate the movies even if
they made them like the first ones, why? they would complain that they had no originality. What made
IV—VI really great was the fact that they were using the really awesome
technology of the time. so by that same standard movies I—III were made with
the really awesome tech. of these times, and it most likely saved a lot of space
and a lot of money, and also thanks to this great technology they were able to
do so much more to be able to crate and visualize so much more, than any on
scene set could create. I also firmly believe that…guess what, if IV—VI were made today, they would have been
made JUST like I—III. I believe we can
solve this problem by viewing each movie
as a separate yet connected entity, as
its own piece of work, if we do not do this than we will be left in this hole
of not liking any remake/ sequel that
comes out because “it’s not like the first one”
3.
Other
orders and why they lack:
a.
Chronological:
this is the I—VI order, I think it’s
just fine to view it this way but there is some argument that it Ruins the
Surprise that Anakin Is Darth Vader and Luke’s father, and I ask: Does it have
to be a surprise? Just because it was for you does it have to be for everyone
else? The Surprise is more for Luke. Nevertheless
it does take out too much fun so it’s not the best way to watch it
b.
There is also the order that they came out,
IV-VI then I-III ? but that sounds
silly, and not really worth the
time to tell why, but think of it as reading
harry Potter 7th book
to the first, just really messed up. You might as well just watch them in
random order.
c.
Machete
Order: IV,V, II,III, VI this is close to what I like but they took out the first, which I
really feel takes out a lot of
important plotlines.
Okay so there is so much more I would like to go over more, I mean this
is star wars, there is so much to talk about, but we can save that for the
movie reviews when I get to them. I hope you enjoyed this. or at least had a fun time getting frustrated
over how much you disagreed with me. Until next time!!
